organic compounds always contains carbon and hydrogen and usually as associated with living things.
inorganic compounds are made up from elements other than carbon.
enzymes certain proteins are called enzymes regualate nearly all chemical reactions in cells.
passive transport the movement of stubstaces though the cell membrane without the input of energy.
diffusion this random movement of molecules from an area where there is relativily more of them into a area were there are relativily fewer of them.
equilibrium occurs when moleculs of one substance are spread evenly thoughout another substance.
osmosis a type of passive transport that occurs when water diffuses though a cell membrane.
active transport energy-requiring process in which transport proteins bind in with partical and move them though a cell membrane.
endocytosis process by a cell takes in another substance by surrounding it with the cell membrane.
exocytosis process by which vesicles release their contects outside cell.
metabolism a total of all chemicalreactions in a organism.
photosynthesis process by which plants and many other producers use light energy to produce a simple sugar from carbon dioxide and water give off oxygen.
respiration process by which producers and consumers release stored energy from food molecules.
fermentation process by which oxygen-lacking cells and some one-celled organisms release small amounts of energy from glucose molecules and produce wastes such as alcohol carbon dioxide and lactic acid.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
