the great compromise called for a 2 house legislature. senate would have equal representation, while the house of representatives would be based on population. included the 3/5 compromise.
three-fifths compromise counted 3/5 population of the slaves in representation
federalists advocated for centralized power and constitutional ratification. was pro constitution
anti-federalists against the adoption of the constitution. feared the constitution would limit freedom and of a centralized government that would rule at a distance.
george washington first president. served two terms then resigned.
judiciary act of 1789 provided for a supreme court with a chief justice and five associates. established the attorney general and created federal district courts and circuit courts.
alexander hamilton first secretary of treasury. proposed the federal bank, and excise tax and tariffs.
jeffersonian republicans or democratic republicans favored states' rights and power in the hands of commoners. political party that absorbed the anti federalists.
jay's treaty an attempt to settle the conflict between the US and England over commerce, navigation, and violations of the Treaty of Paris of 1783. British evacuation of posts in the Northwest.
whiskey rebellion western whiskey farmers refused to pay Hamilton's taxes. groups of farmers terrorized tax collectors. militia crushed the rebellion.
