What is a pure substance? A pure substance is matter that always has exactly the same composition.
What is an element? An element is a substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances.
What is an atom? An atom is the smallest particle of an element.
What is a compound? A compound is a substance that is made from two or more simpler substances and can be broken down into those simpler substances.
What is the difference between a heterogeneous mixture and a homogeneous mixture? The difference between a heterogeneous mixture and a homogeneous is that in a heterogeneous mixture, the parts of it are noticeably different from one another while in a homogeneous mixture, the different substances are are hard to distinguish.
What is a solution, suspension, and colloid? A solution is a mixture that forms when substances dissolve, a suspension is a mixture that separates into layers over time, and a colloid is particles that are intermediate in size.
