Venn diagram | overlapping circles used to organize data into categories where some information may overlap |
equation | a mathematical sentence using numbers and/or variables where both sides are equal |
expression | a combination of numbers, operations and/or variables with no equal signs |
arithmetic sequence | a series of numbers that has a common difference |
coefficient | the number in front of the variable which indicates multiplication in an expression or equation |
constant | a term in an expression or equation that does not contain a variable |
inverse operations | are opposite mathematical computations such as subtraction and addition |
nth term | refers to the position of any number in a sequence |
position | the location of the term in a sequence |
terms | each number in a sequence |
variable | a symbol usually a letter used to represent a number |
commission | money earned for the sale of an item usually a percentage of the sale price |
discount | the amount of money saved on a purchase which is subtracted from the original price |
percent of change | compares the change in quantity to the original amount |
proportion | an equation that shows that two ratios are equivalent |
rate | a ratio that compares two numbers with different kinds of units |
sale price | the cost of an item after a discount has been subtracted |
tax | a percent of the purchase price that is added onto the original price which is paid to the government |
tip | an additional percentage added to the cost of an item such as a haircut or meal that is given to the person providing the service |
unit rate | a rate with a denominator of one |
