Gram | A unit of mass in the metric system that is equivalent of 0.001 kilogram. |
Kilogram | The base unit of mass in the metric system equivalent to 1,000 grams. |
Liter | The base unit of capacity in the metric system. A liter is a little more than a quart. |
Meter | The base unit of length in the metric system |
Metric System | A base-ten system of measurement using the base units: meter for length, kilogram for mass, and liter for capacity. |
Proportion | An equation that shows that two ratios are equivalent. |
Proportional | The relationship between two ratios with a constant rate or ratio. |
Rate | A ratio that compares two quantities with different kinds of units. |
Rate of Change | A ratio that shows a change in one quantity with respect to a change in another quantity. |
Ratio | A comparison of two numbers by division. The ratio of 2 to 3 can be written as 2 out of 3, 2 to 3, 2:3 or 2/3 |
Scale | On a map, intervals used representing the ratio of distance on the map to the actual distance. |
Scale Drawing | A drawing that is similar but either larger or smaller than the actual object. |
Scale Factor | A scale written as a ratio in simplest form |
Slope | The rate of change between any two points on a line. The ratio of vertical change to horizontal change. |
Unit Rate | A rate with denominator of 1. |
Unit Ratio | A unit rate where the denominator is one unit |
