Question | Answer |
Atomic Radius | Distance from the center of the nucleus to the valence electrons. As you move to the left and to the right on the periodic table, size increases. Think of it in terms of pull. The more pull, the smaller the radius. |
Ionic Radius | Largest by francium. Smallest by Helium. Cations are positive. Anions are negative. Anions gain electrons and become bigger. Cations lose electrons and become smaller. |
Ionization Energy | Ionization energy is the minimum energy (kJ / mol) required to remove an electron from a gaseous atom in its ground state. Energy increases up and to the right. Lowest ionization energy is down and to the left. |
Electronegativity | (e trend - ignore noble gasses) tendency for an atom to attract electrons) An atoms pull on electrons in a chemical bond. Fluorine has the greatest electronegativity. Francium has the least electronegativity. |
Electron Affinity. | energy given off when you gain an electron) The one with the most pull wants the electrons the most. |
