| Question | Answer |
| force | a push or a pull |
| motion | |
| acceleration | a change in motion; such as speeding up, slowing down, or changing direction |
| Newton's 1st Law | An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion UNLESS acted on by an unbalanced force. Also known as the "Law of Inertia". |
| unbalanced forces | they are not equal, and may not be opposite. they result in a change in motion. |
| balanced forces | they are opposite and equal, and result in no change in motion |
| Newton's 2nd Law | The greater the mass of an object, the greater amount of force that is needed to accelerate the object. F = m x a |
| inertia | the tendency of an object to resist change in motion (or to resist stopping). moving objects AND objects that are sitting still have this. |
| Newton's 3rd Law | For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. |
