Algerbraic Expression | An expression that includes at least one variable |
Factors | In a multiplication expression, the quantities (numbers and variables) being multiplied |
Product | The result of multiplication |
Base | The number or expression that is used as a factor in repeated multiplication |
Exponent | The number or variable that represents the number of times the base power is used |
Evalute an Algerbraic Expression | To find the value of an algebraic expression by substituting a number for each variable and performing the operation. |
Variable | A letter that is used to represent one or more numbers |
Power | An expression that represents repeated multiplication of the same factor |
Terms of an Expression | The parts of an expression that are added together |
Quantity | Something that serves as the object of an operation |
Order of Operation | Rules for evaluating an expression involving more than one operation |
Equations | A mathematical sentence formed by placing the symbol = between two expressions |
Inequality | A mathematical sentence formed by placing one of the symbols ≥ ≤ › ‹ |
Open Sentence | An equation or an equality that contains algerbraic expression |
Solution of the Equation or Inequality | A number that produces a true statement when substituted for the variable in an equation/ inequality |
Replacement Set | A set of numbers from which replacements for a varialbe may be chosen |
Solution Set | The set of all replacements for the variable in an open sentence that results in a true sentence |
Set | A collection of distinct objects |
Reciprocal | The multiplicative inverse of a number |
Coefficient | The number part of a term with a variable part |
Like Terms | Terms that have the same variable parts - Constant terms are also like terms |
Simplest Form | An expression is in the simplest form when it is replaced by an equivalent expression having no like terms and no parenthese |
Equivalent Expressions | Two expressions that have the same value for all values in the variable |
