Quotient | The answer to a division problem. |
Remainder | The number that remains after the division is complete. |

Estimate | an approximate rather than an exact answer |
Scaffolding Division | The scaffolding algorithm allows students to use partial quotients that are familiar. The partial quotients are subtracted from the dividend until the dividend is smaller than the divisor. |
Rounding | replacing a number that tells about how many or how much. |
Overestimate | An estimate that is greater than the exact answer. |
Underestimate | An estimate that is less than the exact answer. |
Factors | The numbers multiplied together to find a product. |
Product | The answer to a multiplication problem. |
Inverse | Two operations that undo each other. Addition and subtraction are inverse operations. Multiplication and division are inverse operations. |
