Question | Answer |
Matter | the substance or substances of which any physical object consists or is composed |
Pure Substance | A sample of matter, either an element or a compound, that consists of only one component with. |
Element | one of a class of substances that cannot be separated into simpler substances by chemical means |
Compound | a pure substance composed of two or more elements whose composition is constant. |
Mixture | an aggregate of two or more substances that are not chemically united and that exist in no fixed proportion to each other. |
Homogenous Slution | A mixture which has uniform composition and properties throughout. |
Heterogenous Solution | A mixture which does not have a uniform composition and you can see the different parts of the mixture |
Distillation | a method of separating mixtures based on differences in their volatilities in a boiling liquid mixture |
Physical Changes | occurs when objects undergo a change that does not change their chemical nature |
Physical Properties | any property used to characterize matter and energy and their interactions |
Chemical Changes | hemical changes take place on the molecular level. A chemical change produces a new substance. |
Chemical Properties | Properties that do change the chemical nature of matter |
Law of Conservation of Matter | During an ordinary chemical change, there is no detectable increase or decrease in the quantity of matter. |
