| Term | Definition |
| Punnett Squares | A diagram used to predict possible genotypes from certain parents |
| homozygous | having two identical alleles of a particular gene or genes |
| heterozygous | Having two different alleles of a particular gene. Represented by a capital letter and a lowercase letter (Ex. Bb) |
| dominant | A genotype where an organism inherits two dominant alleles. Represented by capital letters (Ex. BB) |
| recessive | A genotype where an organism inherits two recessive alleles. Represented by lowercase letters (Ex. bb) |
| genotype | The complete set of genes of an organism |
| phenotype | The physical traits of an organism (Ex. red hair) |
| probability | The percentage or ratio of genetic outcomes in a punnett square (Percentage - 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% : Ratio - 0:4, 1:3, 2:2, 3:1, 4:0) |
| heredity | The passing of traits from parent to offspring |

| chromosomes | Are like tiny packages inside your cells that hold the instructions for your body. They are made of DNA, which contain genes that determine your traits (Ex. eye color, height) |
| gene | A small piece of DNA, that gives instructions for what traits you’ll have. It’s passed down from parents to kids |
| codominance | An inheritance pattern where two alleles are expressed equally, and neither allele is dominant or recessive |
| alleles | Are versions of a gene |
| incomplete dominance | Happens when traits mix or blend together instead of one trait showing up more than the other |
| polygenic traits | A characteristic that is determined by more than one gene (Ex. AaBBcC) |
| epistaxis | One gene can hide or influence the effect of another gene |
