scientific method | an orderly method for gaining, organizing, and applying new knowledge |
fact | a close agreement by competent observers of a series of obsercations of the same phenomena |
hypothesis | an educated guess; a reasonable explanation of an observation or experimental result that is not fully exxepted as factual until tested over and over again by experiment |
laws/principles | a general explanation of an obersvation or experimental result that is not fully accepted as factual until tested over and over and has not been contridicted |
theory | a synthesis of a large body of information that encompases well-tested and verified hypthesis about aspects of the natural world. |
observation | information gained by using the 5 senses (sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch) |
inference | conclusion based on observations |
controlled experiment | has a control, constant, independent variable and dependent variables |
variable | conditions that can change or be changed |
constants | all other variables are kept the same between the testing groups |
control group | kept undernormal conditions and is used to compare |
indpendent variable | what is cahnged on purpose to be tested |
dependent variable | outcome of the change |
