| Term | Definition |
| Force | any push or pull on an object |
| Unbalanced force | forces that cause a change in an object's motion |
| Balanced force | forces that result in a net force of zero on an object |
| Friction | a force between two objects in contact that opposes an object's motion |
| Coefficient of friction | a ratio of the force of friction between two objects to the normal force on an object. |
| Centripetal force | a force that makes a body follow a circular path |
| Circular motion | a circular path or circular orbit |
| Torque | the product of the force applied to a object times the perpendicular distance from the applied force to the center of the axis of rotation. |
