| Term | Definition |
| balanced force | when two forces are the same strength but acting in opposite directions |
| unbalanced force | forces that are unequal in magnitude and may not act in the same direction |
| magnet | a material or object that produces a magnetic field |
| magnetic poles | regions at the end of a magnet where the force is the strongest |
| magnetic field | the area surrounding a magnet where the push or pull will occur |
| rolling friction | a type of friction that occurs when a wheel, ball, or cylinder rolls freely over a surface |
| static friction | a force that keeps an object at rest |
| sliding friction | the resistance between two surfaces that are sliding against each other |
| fluid friction | the force that opposes motion in between or within a fluid |
