| Term | Definition |
| Data | Information that is gathered by counting, measuring, questioning, or observing. |
| Statistics | A question that would be answered by collecting or analyzing data. |
| Variability | How spread out the values in a set of data are. |
| Statistical Question | The study of numeral data: collecting, organizing, and analyzing data to interpret it and answer questions. |
| Range | The difference between the maximum and the minimum in a data set. It is a measure of how spread out a distribution is. |
| Dot Plot | A number line long enough to encompass all numbers in a sample, showing a dot over the position corresponding to each number. |
| Maximum | Highest or greatest amount or value. |
| Minimum | Lowest or least amount or value. |
| Distribution | The arrangement and frequency of data values in a data set. It may be summarized with measures of center and variability. |
| Mode | The value of values that occur most often in a data set. |
| Data Landmark | A notable feature of a data set. Some are the mean, median, mode , maximum, minimum, and range. |
| Median | A type of average which is the middle value of an ordered set of data values. |
| Average | It is a measure used to find the location of the middle (central tendency) of a data set. |
| Mean | Usually called the average and may be called the arithmetic mean. |
| Balance Point | It is the mean |
| Measure of Center | A value representing what is typical or central to a data set. |
| Outlier | A value far away from most of the rest in a set of data. |
| Histogram | A graph using bars to represent frequency distribution where, bar heights represent the score frequencies and there are no spaces between the bars. |
| Bin | An interval for collecting, aggregating, organizing, or graphing data. |
| Cluster | Numbers which tend to crowd around a particular point in a set of data values. |
| Positive Numbers | A number that is greater than zero. |
| Integer | A whole number or the opposite of a whole number, where 0 is its own opposite. |
| Counting Numbers | The numbers used to count things. |
| Whole Numbers | The counting numbers, together with 0. |
