| bases of a prism | two congruent parallel faces by which the prism is classified |
| composing | combining two or more simple shapes to create a larger shape |
| cubic units | units used to measure volume; units raised to the third power |
| decomposing | to break apart a larger shape into other smaller shapes |
| dimension | the length, width or height of a figure |
| edge | the line segment along which two faces of a polyhedron intersect |
| face | a flat surface of a polyhedron |
| lateral faces | in a cylinder, the curved surface connecting the circular bases; in a cone, the curved surface that is not a base |
| net | an arrangement of 2-dimensional figures that can be folded to form a 3-dimensional figure |
| surface area | the sum of the areas of the faces, or surfaces, of a 3-dimensional figure |
| vertices | the points where two sides intersect; the plural form of vertex |
