Question | Answer |
What is a normal? | Rays making equal lines to a perpendicular line, which is called the normal. |
What percent of light is returned when light shimmers on water. | 2% |
What is the angle of incidence? | The angle between the incident ray and the normal called the angle of incidence. |
What is a plane mirror? | A mirror that is flat. |
What is a concave mirror? | A mirror that curves inwards. |
What is a convex mirror? | A mirror that curves outwards. |
What is a virtual image? | An image that appears to be in a location where light doesn't reach. |
What are wave fronts? | Wave fronts are lines drawn that represent the positions of different crests. |
What is Refraction? | Refraction is the bending of a wave as it crosses the boundary between 2 media at an angle |
What causes mirages? | Mirages are caused by the refraction of light in the earths atmosphere. |
What is dispersion? | Dispersion is the separation of light into colors arranged according to their frequency. |
Do different frequencies of light travel at different speeds? | Yes, visible light of higher frequencies travel slower than light of lower frequencies. |
How can you see a full color spectrum in a rain drop? | Light that enters the raindrop is dispersed into spectral colors. |
What is a critical angle? | A critical angle is the angle of incidence that results in the light being refracted at an angle of 90 degrees. |
What is total internal reflection? | The complete reflection of light back into its original medium. |
