| Negative feedback | Inhibitory mechanisms in the body that negate or oppose a change by creating a response that is opposite in direction to the initial disturbance in order to return body to homeostasis |
| positive feedback | Stimulatory mechanisms in the body that tend to amplify or reinforce the change that is occurring, disrupts homeostasis, but goal is to return to homeostasis. |
| ATP | Adenosine Triphosphate. An important organice molecule because it is the form of energy used to do the work of muscle contraction, active transport, and biosynthesis. |
| Cellular respiration | process by which cells break down glucose, or a nutrient that has been converted to glucose or one of its simpler products, not carbon dioxide and water. |
| Transcription | Synthesis of any RNA molecule. Copies and transcribes a portion of the DNA code. |
| Osteogensis | Combined action of osteoblasts and osteoclasts sculpting bones into their adult shape |
