Question | Answer |
Eyepiece Lens | The lens at the top that you look through. They are usually 10X or 15X power. |
Body Tube | Connects the eyepiece to the objective lenses, it is the hollow tube through which light passes. |
Microscope | Device to look at small things “Micro” means very small “Scope” means to look at |
Base | Bottom part of the microscope often shaped like a horseshoe, used for support |
Arm | Supports the tube and connects it to the base. It is used along with the base to carry the microscope |
Stage | The flat platform where you place your slides or specimens |
Stage Clips | Holds down the slide on the stage. |
Coarse Focus | This is used to focus the microscope. It is always used first, it is used only with the low power objective. Raises or lowers the Body Tube to focus |
Fine Focus | This is used to focus the microscope. It is used with the high power objective to bring the specimen into better focus. Raises or lowers the Body Tube to focus |
Nose Piece | is the round part that holds the OBJECTIVE LENSES apart |
Low Power Objective | Magnifies the specimen at a lower power |
High Power Objective | Magnifies the specimen at a Higher power |
Objective lens | Usually you will find 3 or 4 of these on a microscope. They almost always consist of 4X, 10X, 40X and 100X powers. |
Diaphragm | Changes the amount of light reaching the objective lenses. Located under the Stage. |
Light Source | Located beneath the Stage and Diaphragm. Sends light towards the hole in the stage. |
