Oxyacids | Most covalent nonmetallic oxides react with water to form acidic oxides which are oxyacids |
Limiting Reactant | reactant that is completely consumed |
Excess Reactant | reactant that remains after the limiting reactant is consumed |
Theoretical Yield | – the amount indicated by the stoichiometrically equivalent molar ratio in the balanced equation (what you should get if all goes right) |
Actual Yield | the amount of product that you actually obtain, usually in lab |
Binary Acids | acids that only have two elements – hydrogen and a highly electronegative element |
Examples of Oxyacids | sulfate, sulfite, bromate, bromite, hypobromite, perbromous (notice the "ite" and the "ate" in the name) |
Examples of Binary Acids | HCl, HBr, HI, H2S, HF (notice "H" at the beginning of each, also they would include "hydro" at the beginning of the name.) |
Conversion Factors | a ratio (or fraction) which represents the relationship between two different units. A conversion factor is ALWAYS equal to 1. |
