neutron | Neutral subatomic particle, about the same size as a proton |
nucleus | The small, dense, positively charged central core of an atom |
Law of Conservation of Matter | Matter is neither created nor destroyed in a chemical reaction |
atomic number | The number of protons in the nucleus of an atom |
mass number | The sum of the protons and the neutrons in the nucleus of an atom |
isotope | Atoms of the same element that have different numbers of neutrons |
electromagnetic spectrum | The whole range of electromagnetic radiation, from radio waves to gamma rays |
wavelength | The distance between two corresponding points on consecutive waves |
frequency | The number of waves that go by in a second |
emission spectrum | The spectrum of light released from excited atoms of an element |
