Term	Definition
Beaker Tongs	Used to handle beakers containing hot liquids (Not to be used with crucibles)
Beakers	Wide cylindrical glass container used to hold hot solids or liquids that are heated or reacted
Bunsen Burner	Consists of a gas inlet, burner tube, air control vent, and gas control
Buret	Graduated glass tube with a plug at one end. Used for measuring the volume of a liquid or gas
Clay Triangle	Used to support containers (crucibles) when being heated over a bunsen burner
Crucible and Cover	Used as a container to heat substances to a very high temperature
Crucible Tongs	Used to handle hot crucibles or other hot objects (NOT beakers)
Dropper	Used to transfer small volumes of liquid
Erlenmeyer Flask	Triangular shaped glass container used to hold solids or liquids that react without heating or react with gentle heating
Evaporating Disk	Used to evaporate excess liquid from a solid
File	Used primarily for cutting glass tubing
Forceps	Used to pick up small objects
Funnel	Used to pour liquid into a narrow container
Glass Stirring Rod	Used to manually stir solutions or transfer a single drop of solution
Graduated Cylinder	Used to accurately measure volumes of liquids
Iron Ring	Used to hold equipment above to work table
Mortar and Pestle	Used to ground up solids into fine powder
Reagent Bottle	Used to hold liquid or powder chemicals
Ring Stand	Used to give an area for test tube clamps and ring clamps to clamp onto
Rubber Stoppers	Acts as a cork but doesn’t allow any vapour to leave the container
Safety Goggles	Used to protect you eyes during experiments
Scopula	Used to help dispense solid chemicals from their containers
Spot Plate	Used to preform many small scale reactions at the same time
Test Tube Rack	Used for holding and and organizing test tubes on the lab counter (Plastic versions may melt if they come in contact with very hot test tubes)
Test Tube Holder	Used to hold a test tube that is too hot to handle
Test Tubes	Glass finger-length containers used for reacting and heating small amounts of chemicals
Test Tube Brush	Used to clean test tubes and graduated cylinders
Thermometer	Used to measure temperature
Utility Clamp	Used to secure test tubes and erlenmeyer flasks to the ring stand
Wash Bottle	Has a spout that delivers a wash solution of water to a specific area
Wire Gauze	Sits on the iron ring to provide a place to stand a beaker or and erlenmeyer flask and spread the heat uniformly on the bottom of the glassware
