| What is regrouping? | When you need to carry a digit over to the next place when you are adding OR when you need to borrow from one place to another to subtract |
| What is a factor? | One of the numbers used in a multiplication problem |
| What is a product? | The answer to a multiplication problem |
| What is a pictograph? | When symbols are used in a graph to show information |
| What is a bar graph? | When bars are used in a graph to represent data |
| What is a tally? | A marking used to represent "one." EX: IThey can be clustered in "fives" by putting a slash through a group of four. |
| What is a sum? | The answer to an addition problem |
| What is a difference? | The answer to a subtraction problem |
| What is a quotient? | The answer to a division problem? |
| What is area? | The measurement of the INSIDE of a 2D shape |
| What is a perimeter? | The measurement AROUND the OUTSIDE of a 2D shape |
| What is a pattern? | A series of numbers or shapes that repeat in a predictable way |
| What is a numberline? | A line that separates numbers in a fixed way (like a ruler - it is always in inches or centimeters). Patterns are not the same as numberlines!!! |
| What are compatibile numbers? | Numbers that pair up to make other friendly numbers (8 and 2; 40 and 60; 25 and 75) |
| What is estimating? | When "easier" numbers are used to come up with a total that is close, but not exactly accurate |
| What is rounding? | Using a special math rule to make a number ending in zero |
| What is a fraction? | Only a part of a whole object or set. |
| What is a region? | One of the parts of a fraction. If something is broken into five equal parts, then there are five regions. |
| What is a numerator? | The top number of a fraction. It represents the parts being talked about. |
| What is a denominator? | The bottom number of a fraction. It represents all the parts that make the whole. |
| What is a hexagon? | A 2D figure with six sides. |
| What is a pentagon? | A 2D figure with 5 sides |
| What is a heptagon? | A 2D figure with 7 sides |
| What is a octogon? | A 2D figure with 8 sides |
| What is a nonagon? | A 2D figure with nine sides |
| What is a polygon? | A multisided 2D figure. Triangles, squares, rectangles, octogons, nonagons, are all polygons. |
| What is a quadrilateral? | ANY four sided shape. Trapezoids, parallelograms, squares, and rectangles are all examples. |
| What is a vertex? | Where the corners of a shape meet |
| What is a face? | The 2D surface of a 3D shape |
| What is an edge? | Where two 2D shapes' sides meet |
| What is congruent? | Two shapes that are exactly the same size and angle. They can be rotated or turned in any direction. |
| What is symmetry? | When a shape can be folded in half and have both sides 100% match. |
