| layer mask | something that you apply to a given layer to control the transparency of that layer |
| HTML | A Standard system for tagging text files to achieve font, color, graphic, and hyperlink effects on World Wide Web pages |
| loop | This is a section of a piece of music cut in such a way that it can be seamlessly repeated indefinitely by technical means |
| raster | These types of images (sometimes referred to as bitmap images) are made up of thousands of pixels which determine the color and form of the image |
| typography | The art of arranging type. It’s one of the fundamentals of graphic design |
| lasso tool | Use this tool to manually cut out an image using Pixlr or Photoshop |
| chroma keying | The term for taking out a specific color in a video such as green in Apple Motion or Final Cut |
| keyframe | In animation and filmmaking, is a drawing that defines the starting and ending points of any smooth transition |
| layers | In graphics software, a term used to describe the different levels at which you can place an object or image file. In the program you can stack, merge or define these when creating a digital image |
| animated gif | A GIF graphic file, which consists of two or more images shown in timed sequence to give the effect of motion |
| alpha | This channel is really a mask--it specifies how the pixel’s colors should be merged with another pixel when the two are overlaid, one on top of the other |
| vector | These type of graphics use geometrical primitives such as points, lines, curves, and shapes or polygons--all of which are based on mathematical expressions--to represent images in computer graphics |
| PNG | This type of file preserves transparency and can be opened by many photo editing programs |
| gradient | Refers to a function in graphic software permitting a person to make an image contain a gradual change of colors(such as purple turning gradually into blues and then greens) |
| feathering | Use this to soften the edge of an image by making the edge gradually fade out until it becomes transparent |
| hex code | This code starts with a pound sign (#) and is followed by six values or three value pairs(for example, #AFD645). It is used as a way of specifying color |
| PXD | The type of Pixlr file that preserves all of its elements. This file type retains layers |
| onion skinning | This is a technique used in animating to see several frames at once |
| pixels | The smallest element of an image. Images are comprised of many minuscule of these, providing a clear, high quality image to the viewer |
| resolution | A measure of dots per inch (DPI) for printed works and pixels per inch(PPI) for digital work |
