Decomposition | the state or process of rotting; decay. |
Limiting reactant | The reactant in a chemical reaction that limits the amount of product that can be formed. |
Percent composition | The percent composition of a component in a compound is the percent of the total mass of the compound that is due to that component. |
Combustion | the process of burning something. |
Mole ratio | ratio between the amounts in moles of any two compounds involved in a chemical reaction. Mole ratios are used as conversion factors between products and reactants in many chemistry problems. |
Stoichiometry | used to determine the amount of products/reactants that are produced/needed in a given reaction. Describing the quantitative relationships among substances as they participate in chemical reactions is known as reaction stoichiometry. |
Synthesis | combination or composition, in particular. |
Double displacement | a type of chemical reaction where two compounds react, and the positive ions (cation) and the negative ions (anion) of the two reactants switch places, forming two new compounds or products. |
Empirical formula | a formula giving the proportions of the elements present in a compound but not the actual numbers or arrangement of atoms. |
