Term | Definition |
Biohazard | Can cause infection or disease in living things. Examples: Tools used for medical treatment (like needles for shots), bacteria, viruses |
Corrosive | Liquids that chemically wear away at solid materials Examples: bleach, acid, oven cleaner |
Explosive | Materials that release gas, heat, or pressure quickly when exposed to change in temperature Examples: TNT, gas stored under pressure |
Flammable | Liquids that catch on fire when near or in flame, sparks, or a heat source Examples: Gasoline, paint thinner, ethanol |
Flammable Solid | A SOLID material that ignites when oxygen is present or when exposed to water or humidity Examples: Magnesium metal, moth balls |
Oxidizer (reactive) | Materials that react chemically and cause other materials to burn Examples: Hair bleach, laundry bleach |
Radioactive | Materials that release nuclear energy that can damage living things Examples: Radon, Uranium, nuclear fuel |
Toxic | Materials that are poisonous if inhaled, eaten, swallowed, or absorbed through the skin Examples: Brake fluid, household cleaners, insecticides |
