Term | Definition |
direct variation | A relationship between two quantities such that one quantity changes at a constant rate with the other quantity. |
rate | A ratio that compares two quantities with different units; it shows how fast or slow something is changing. |
scale model | A proportional three-dimensional representation of an object. |
proportion | An equation that states that two ratios are equal. |
unit rate | A rate that shows the constant rate of change in the units of the numerator for every one unit of the denominator. |
scale | A ratio that compares the measurements of a drawing or model with the actual measurements of the object. |
variable | A letter or symbol used to represent an unknown quantity. |
cross products | A strategy that can be used to solve proportions for an unknown and to determine proportionality. |
scale drawing | A proportional two-dimensional representation of an object. |
origin | The graphs of proportional relationships is a straight line that passes through this point, (0, 0). |
constant of proportionality | The unit rate or slope of a proportional relationship is also called this. |
