| Term | Definition |
| inertia | the tendency of all objects to resist any change in motion |
| Newton's first law of motion | an object at rest remains at rest, and an object in motion remains in motion at a constant speed and in a straight line unless acted on by an unbalanced force |
| Newton's second law of motion | the acceleration of an object depends on its mass and the amount of force applies |
| Newton's third law of motion | all forces act in pairs, for every action force there is an equal and opposite reaction force |
| friction | the common unblanced force acting on objects in motion |
| equation for Newton's second law of moition | F = m x a |
| gravity | the force of attraction between 2 objects |
| mass | the amount of matter in an object |
| weight | the amount of gravitational force on an object |
| centripetal force | the unbalanced force that causes an object to move in a circular path |
| projectile motion | the curved path an object follows, combination of horizontal and vertical motion |
| terminal velocity | when the force of gravity is equal to the force of air friction on a falling object, net force is 0 N |
| orbit | when one object in space makes a circular path around another due to gravity and horizontal motion |
| law of universal gravitation | all objects in the universe are attracted to each other |
