Associative Property of Addition | When adding, the way numbers are GROUPED does not change the value. Ex. 3 + (25 + 8) = (3 + 25) + 8 |
Commutative Property of Addition | When adding, the ORDER of the numbers does not change the value. Ex. 2 + 8 + 15 = 8 + 2 + 15 |
Associative Property of Multiplication | When multiplying, the way numbers are GROUPED does not change the value. Ex. (5 x 9) x 12 = 5 x (9 x 12) |
Commutative Property of Multiplication | When multiplying, the ORDER of the numbers does not change the value. Ex. 7 x 8 x 4 = 8 x 4 x 7 |
Additive Identity Property | You can add zero to any number and it keeps its identity (the value doesn't change). Ex. 8 + 0 = 8 |
Multiplicative Identity Property | You can multiply any number by one and it keeps its identity (the value doesn't change). Ex. 36 x 1 = 36 |
Distributive Property | Multiplying a number by a group of numbers added together is the same as doing each multiplication separately. Ex. 5(11 + 6) = 5 x 11 + 5 x 6 |
