Term | Definition |
Terminating Decimal | A decimal that ends, or terminates. |
Repeating Decimal | A decimal in which one or more digits repeats. |
Bar Notation | A line, or bar, above the part of a repeating decimal that repeats. |
Numerator | In a fraction, the number above the fraction line. |
Denominator | In a fraction, the number below the fraction line. |
Mixed Number | A whole number and a fraction. |
Improper Fraction | A fraction in which the numerator is larger than the denominator. |
Simplest Form | A fraction in which 1 is the only number that can divide evenly into both the numerator and denominator. |
Benchmark | Using a fraction, such as 1/2 as a reference point when comparing and ordering fractions. |
Common Denominator | Two fractions with like denominators. |
Like Fractions | Fractions with the same number in denominators. |
Unlike Fractions | Fractions that do not have the same number in the denominators. |
Equivalent Fractions | Two or more fractions that name the same amount but look different. |
Reciprocal | A flipped over fraction. |
Inverse Operation | The opposite operation |
