Philosophers | Truth is revealed through logic and debate |
Scientist | Truth is revealed through experimentation |
Observation | A way of requiring info also known as data |
Hypothesis | A tentative interpretation or explanation of your observation |
Experiments | Test of hypothesis, laws, or theories |
Laws | Summary of observations |
Theory | General explanation for the characteristics and behavior of nature. |
Scientific Law | A number of similar observations generalized into a brief statement summarizing past observations and predicticting new ones |
Matter | Anything that occupies space and has mass |
Crystalline Solids | Solids that have their particles arranged in an orderly geometric pattern |
Amorphous Solids | Solids that have particles that do not show a regular geometric pattern over a long range. |
Elements | Pure substances that cannot be broken down into simpler substances e.g., copper,helium,sodium |
Compounds | Pure substances that are made of two or more elements in definite proportions e.g., sodium chloride NaCl, Carbon dioxide CO2 |
Pure Substance | Made of a single type of particle. The composition does not change. |
Homogeneous Mixture | Has uniform composition through out the sample (Same) |
Heterogeneous Mixture | Does not have a uniform composition through out the sample (Different) |
