explosive | materials that cause sudden release of pressure, gas, or heat when exposed to a change in pressure or temperature ex: TNT |
flammable | liquids that can catch on fire when exposed to a spark, flame, or heat source ex: gasoline, paints |
flammable solid | materials that ignite in the presence of oxygen or when exposed to water or humidity ex: magnesium metal |
gas | gases stored under pressure that are flammable, toxic or explosive ex: propane |
oxidizer | materials that chemically cause other materials to burn ex: hair bleach, laundry bleach, certain pool chemicals |
radioactive | materials that release nuclear energy that causes damage to living organisms ex: uranium ore, radon |
toxic | materials that are poisonous if inhaled, ingested or absorbed through the skin ex: insecticides, household cleaners |
