Term | Definition |
Standard form | A common way of writing a number with commas separting groups of three digits starting from the right. Ex. 3, 4, 5, 8 |
Expanded form | A way to write a number that shows the place vlaue of each digit. Ex. 3,000+500+20+3+0.1+0.07 |
Equivalent decimals | Decimals that name the same amount. Ex. 0.7=0.70 |
Word form | A way to write a number using words. |
Expanded Notation | A way to write a number that shows the digit multiplied times the value of the place the digit is in. EX. (3x1,000) + (5x100)+(2x10)+(3x1)+(9x0.1)+(2z0.01) |
Number Line | A diagram that represents numbers as points on a line. |
Difference | Answer to a subtraction problem |
Sum | Answer to addition problem |
Estimate | A number close to an exact amount |
Expression | A mathematical combination of number, operations, and variables |
Inverse Operation | Operations that undo each other; opposite operations |
Factor | A number that is multiplied by another number to find a product. |
Product | The answer to a multiplication problem. |
Quotient | The answer to a division problem. |
Input | The number that is put into the "number machine" |
Output | The number that comes out of the "number machine" |
Function | Numbers in the "x" position are not repeating |
Length | The distance from one end of an object to the other end. |
Area | The space a figure takes up. |
Perimeter | The distance around a figure or space. |
Elapsed Time | Amount of time that passes between the start and end of a given period. |
Denominator | Describes the total number of parts that make one whole |
Numerator | Describes the number of parts shaded or being represented |
Slope | Movement of a line of a graph |
Y- intercept | Where the slope crosses the y- axis |
Midpoint | The middle spot in a line segment |
Mean | Average |
Median | Middle number in a set when ordered from smallest to largest |
Mode | The number in a set that occurs the most often |
Range | The difference between the smallest and largest number in a set |
