Question | Answer |
Atom | The smallest particle of an element that retains the properties of that element. |
Electron | Negatively charged subatomic particle. |
Proton | Postively charged subatomic particle. |
Nucleus | The centeral core of an atom, composed of protons and neutrons |
Atomic Number | An element is the number of protons in the nucleus of the atom of that element. |
Mass Number | Total number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus. |
Isotopes | Atoms that have the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons. |
Atomic Mass Unit (amu) | one-twelfth the mass of a carbon-12 atom |
Atomic Mass | An element that's the weighted average mass of the atoms in a naturally occuring sample of the element. |
