Term | Definition |
Diagonal | A segment that joins two nonconsecutive vertices of a polygon. |
Parallelogram | A quadrilateral with both pairs of opposite sides parallel. |
Rhombus | A parallelogram with four congruent sides |
Rectangle | A parallelogram with four right angles. |
Square | A parallelogram with four congruent sides and four right angles. |
Trapezoid | A quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides, called bases. The nonparallel sides are legs. |
Bases of a trapezoid | The parallel sides of a trapezoid. |
Base angles of a trapezoid | Either pair of angles whose common side is a base of a trapezoid. |
Legs of a trapezoid | The nonparallel sides of a trapezoid. |
Isosceles trapezoid | A triangle with at least two congruent sides. |
Midsegment of a trapezoid | A segment that connects the midpoints of the legs of a trapezoid. |
Kite | A quadrilateral that has two pairs of consecutive congruent sides, but in which opposite sides are not congruent. |
