Term | Definition |
Compound | When two or more different elements are chemically bonded together |
Mixture | When two or more substances are combined, but do NOT chemically bond. They just mix. |
Element | A pure substance made of only one type of atom. |
Heterogeneous Mixture | A mixture in which the different parts are still visible. |
Homogeneous Mixture | A mixture that is the same throughout. The different parts are not visible. |
Physical Property | A property that can be observed without changing the identify of a substance. Examples include color, luster, texture, malleability, density, conductivity, etc. |
Chemical Property | A property that can only be observed by changing the identify of a substance. Examples include reactivity and flammability. |
Physical Change | Does not change the identify of a substance. Examples include tearing, boiling, melting, freezing, etc. |
Chemical Change | Changes the identify of a substance. Examples include rusting, burning, reacting with water |
