Term | Definition |
Even numbers | Numbers that divide by 2. They always end in 2,4,6,8 or 0. |
Odd numbers | Numbers that do not divide by 2. They always end in 1,3,5,7 and 9. |
Factors | Whole numbers that divide exactly into a number. They include 1 and the number itself. |
Multiples | The results of multiplying a number by a (positive whole) number. |
Common multiple | A number that is a multiple of more than one number. |
Prime number | A (whole) number greater than 1 whose only factors are 1 and itself. |
Prime factor | A factor that is also a prime number. |
Common factor | A number that is a factor of more than one number. |
Lowest common multiple (LCM) | The lowest multiple that is common to (the same in) two or more given numbers. |
Highest common factor (HCF) | The highest factor that is common to (the same in) two or more given numbers. |
Square number | The result of multiplying a (whole) number by itself. |
Cube number | The result of multiplying a (whole) number by itself then multiplying the result by the original number. |
