Relative Atomic Mass | ..is defined as the average mass, of the mass numbers, of the isotopes, of the element, as they occur naturally, taking into account their abundances and expressed on a scale in which the atoms of the carbon-12 isotope have a mass of exactly 12 units. |
Radioactivity | ..is the spontaneous breaking up of certain unstable nuclei with the emission of one or more types of radiation. |
Radioactive decay. | ..is the process of changing from one radioactive element to another. |
Nuclear reaction | ..is the emission of radioactive radiation. |
Transmutation | ..in the emission of alpha and beta radiation from unstable nuclei we've seen how one element may be changed from one element into another. |
Half-life | The half life of an element is the time taken for half the nuclei in any given sample to decay. |
Emission line spectrum | ..is the characteristic of that element and is different from that of any other element. |
The Balmer Series | ..contains all of the lines in the visible region of the hydrogen spectrum. |
Lyman series | all the lines in the UV region. |
Paschen series | all the lines in the IR region. |
Energy level | ..is the fixed energy value that an electron in an atom may have. |
Ground state. | Lowest energy level. |
Atomic Orbital | ..is a region of space where there is a high probability of finding an electron. |
