What is Inverse Variation? | Inverse variation is when y varies inversely to x, or when y is inversely proportional to x, if there is a non-zero constant k such that y=k/x The number k is called the constant of variation or the constant of proportionality. |
What is Direct Variation? | Direct variation is when y varies directly as to x, or y is directly proportional to x, if there is a non-zero constant k such that y=kx The number k is called the constant of variation or the constant of proportionality. |
What is Joint Variation? | If the ration of a variable y to product of two or more variables is constant, then y varies jointly as, or is jointly proportional to, the other variables. If y=kxz then the number k is the constant of variation. |
Solve y=21 when x=7 | Utilize the direct variation formula y=kx Therefore, 21=k(7) Divide both sides by 7 to isolate k 21/7=k7/7 3=k |
Is the following equation a direct, inverse, or joint variation? y=3/4x | Direct variation |
Is the following equation a direct, inverse, or joint variation? y=3xz | Joint variation |
Is the following equation a direct, inverse, or joint variation? y=200/x | Inverse variation |
