Term | Definition |
Atom | The smallest particle of an element that retains its identity in a chemical reaction. |
Electron | A negatively charged subatomic particle. |
Proton | A positively charged subatomic particle. |
Neutron | A subatomic particle with no charge. |
Nucleus | The tiny central core of an atom and is composed of protons and neutrons. |
Atomic number | The number of protons in the nucleus of an atom of an element. |
Mass number | The total number of protons and neutrons in an atom. |
Isotopes | Atoms that have the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons. |
Atomic mass | A weighted average mass of an atom. |
Electron | A subatomic particle whose mass is negligible. |
Neutron | A subatomic particle that has the same mass as proton. |
Proton | A subatomic particle that has the same mass as neutron. |
