parallel | Lines in the same plane that never intersect and remain the same distance apart from each other. |
quadrilateral | A four-sided polygon. |
altitude | A perpendicular distance from a vertex to its opposite side in a polygon. |
supplemental angles | Two angles whose measures have a sum of 180°. |
parallelogram | A quadrilateral with both pairs of opposite sides parallel. Opposite sides lengths are congruent and opposite angles are equal measures. Consecutive angles are supplementary angles. |
trapezoid | A quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides. |
triangle | A polygon with three sides and three angles. |
area | The amount of square units covered by a two dimensional figure. |
hypotenuse | The long side opposite the right angle in a right triangle. |
perimeter | The sum of the lengths of a closed plane figure. |
circumference | The distance around the circle. |
radius | A segment whose endpoints are the center of a circle and a point on the circumference of the circle. |
diameter | A segment that passes through the center of a circle and whose endpoints are on the circumference of the circle. |
Pi | The ratio of the circumference of the circle to the length of the diameter. π≈3.14π ≈ 3.14 |
proportion | An equation that states two ratios are equivalent. |
sector | The part of a circle enclosed by two radii of a circle and their intercepted arc. (A pie-shaped part of a circle) |
composed | To create something. |
decomposed | To break something down into smaller parts or pieces. |
breadth | The distance from one side of an object to the other side. |
composite figure | A two dimensional geometric figure made from two or more two dimensional geometric figures. |
