Question | Answer |
Reciprocal | two number are reciprocals if their product is "1."for example the reciprocal of 5/7 is 7/5 |
Axes | The horizontal line and vertical that are used to represent the variable quantities on a graph. For example, in the graph below, the horizontal axis represents width and the vertical axis represents length. |
Coordinates | Numbers that represent the location of a point on a graph. For example, if a point is 3 units to the right and 7 units up from the origin, its coordinates are (3,7). |
line graph | A graph in which points are connected with line segments. |
ordered pair | A pair of numbers that represent the coordinates of a point, with the horizontal coordinate of the point written first. For example, the point with horizontal coordinate “3” and vertical coordinate “7” is represented by the ordered pair (3,7). |
origin | The point where the axes of a graph meet. The origin of a graph is usually the “0” point for each axis. |
variable | A quantity that varies, or changes. For example, in a problem about the sizes of buildings, the height and width of the buildings would be variables. |
