Metals | Shiny, have high melting points, strong, ductile and conductors. |
Non-Metals | Dull, inelastic, low melting point, bad conductors, brittle. |
Alloy | A mixture of metals. Example: Brass, Bronze, Steel, Solder etc. |
Brass | Alloy made out of copper and zinc. |
Bronze | Alloy made out of copper and tin. |
Steel | Alloy made out of iron and carbon. |
Solder | Alloy made out of lead and tin. |
Alkali Metals | Metals that react vigorously in contact with water. Also they are silvery and soft. |
Rusting | Corrosion of iron and steel is also called rusting. Conditions necessary for rusting: water and oxygen. |
Plastics Part 1. | Man-made, moldable , easy to maintain, cheap, light and good insulators. |
Plastics Part 2. | Plastics are non-biodegradable. That means that they cannot be broken down by micro-organisms. |
Plastics Part 3. | When burnt they release poisonous fumes. |
Types of plastics Part 1. | Polythene (plastic bag), Polystyrene ( that thing eggs are put in). |
Types of plastics Part 2. | Polypropylene (plastic chairs), Nylon (Tennis Rackets), P.V.C (plastic hose). |
