Term | Definition |
digit | an individual number |
Place Value | shows the amount a digit is worth and its position |
Sum | answer to addition problem |
Difference | answer to a subtraction problem |
Product | answer to a multiplication problem |
Quotient | answer to division problem |
factors | the numbers in a multiplication problem |
decimal places | these are located to the right of the decimal |
Multiples | are the answers when you multiply by a whole number. (2,4,6,8) (3,6,9,12) (20,40,60,80) counting by that number |
Prime Number | a number with only 2 factors (2,3,5,7,11,13,17,19...) |
Composite Number | a number with more than two factors |
Infinite | without end, goes on forever |
Divisible | able to be divided with out a remainder, goes into evenly |
Fraction | part of a whole number |
LCM | Least Common Multiple, the smallest number that both numbers will divide into without remainders |
GCF | Greatest common factor, the largest factor of two numbers |
numerator | the number above the fraction bar, the number of parts being used |
denominator | the number below the fraction bar, the number of parts in the whole |
Cross product | the answer you get when you multiply the numerator of one fraction by the denominator or the other. |
Lowest Terms/Simplest form | when the two numbers in a fraction have only the factor 1 in common. |
Mixed Number | A fraction made up of a whole number and a fraction |
Improper fraction | A fraction where the numerator is bigger than the denominator |
part | the numerator in a fraction |
whole | the denominator in a fraction |
cross products | the answer you get when you multiply the denominator of one fraction with the numerator of another fraction |
