Acid | pH Level: Under 7. Neutalises alkalis. |
Alloy | A metal made by mixing 2+ metals/non-metals. |
Atomic Number | The number of protons in an element's nucleus. |
Base | pH Level: Over 7. Turn litmus blue and react with acids to form salt. |
Chemical Reaction | A change in the molecular or ionic structure of a substance. |
Compound | 2+ elements chemically combined. |
Covalent Bond | Chemical bonding where atoms share electron pairs. |
Distillation | Heating a liquid to create a vapour, which is collected when cooled separate from original liquid. Separates soluble solid and its solvent. |
Electrolysis | Decomposition produced by passing an electric current through a liquid or solution containing ions. |
Element | Substance made of one type of atom. |
Hard Water | Contains minerals (e.g: calcium/magnesium ions) that don't allow lather. |
Indicator | Chemicals that change colour according to pH level. |
Ionic Bond | A chemical bond in which one atom loses an electron to form a positive ion and the other atom gains an electron to form a negative ion. |
Isotope | An atom of an element with a different amount of neutrons. |
MIxture | 2+ substances mixed together but not chemically combined. |
Molecule | Groups of 2 or more atoms joined together. |
Neutralization | When an acid and base react to form a salt. |
pH Scale | Measures the acidity and basicity of a substance. |
Solution | The solute and solvent together. |
