Editing	The coordination of one shot with the next
Primary Kinds of Edits	Physical vs. Optical, Cuts, Wipes, Dissolves, Fades
Bordwell & Thompson outline four dimensions of film editing:	Graphic Relations, Rhythmic Relations, Spatial relations, temporal relations
Graphic Match	editing two shots together with like compositions to show their similarity usually by cut or dissolve
Graphic Discontinuity	editing two shots together with unlike compositions, often to call attention to the film editing
Rhythmic Relations	Film Tempo, Editing isn't the only means of determining film tempo but it is perhaps the most influential way to change the pace of a film... Varying shot lengths produce a different rhythmic effect
Spatial Relations	Using space to construct a universe of diegetic film space
Kuleshov Effect	a sequence that prompts the spectator to infer a spatial whole in the absence of an establishing shot
Parallel Editing/ Cross Cutting	alternating shots from one line of action in one place with shots of events taken place elsewhere
Elliptical editing	presenting an action so that it consumes less screen time than it does real time
overlapping editing	repeating an action across an edit
Continuity Editing	System designed to enhance narrative continuity, also known as invisible editing. Dominant style of Hollywood cinema.
Spacial Continuity	180 degree rule: The space of the scene is constructed and maintained along an axis of action
Establishing shot	shot at the beginning of a sequence that establishes the spatial relations of the scene and the characters within it
Shot/reverse shot	cutting from one end of the 180 line to the other end in order to simulate a conversation taking place
Eyeline Match	The offscreen gaze of a character onscreen matches with the offscreen gaze of the character in the next edit
Match on action	cancelling part of an action by cutting from its start to a later point
