compounds | two elements that are chemically combined |
mixture | two elements that are physically combined |
heterogenous | a mixture that has large parts that u can see |
homogenous | a mixture where it has small parts that you can not see because they are mixed together |
physical properties | what you can see on an object or feel |
chemical properties | what you can not see because it is chemically combined into the object |
physical changes | when an object just changes physical properties and not chemical |
chemical changes | When an object changes completely |
periodic table | a table that shows all of the elements ever found and logs their atomic mass and number |
metals | something on the periodic table that is solid at room temperatur |
nonmetals | something on the periodic table that is a liquid or gas at room temperature |
metalloids | a cross between metals and nonmetals |
luster | the shine of a metal |
conductor | a metal that can conduct heat or electricity |
mallebale | they can be bent and pounded into different shapes |
ductile | they can be drawn into wires without breaking |
high density | having a high concentration |
dull | they do not shine |
non-conductors | metals that do not conduct electricity or heat |
brittle | fragile, easy to break |
periods of the periodic table | the rows on the periodic table |
Groups/families of the periodic table | The columns on the periodic table |
Atomic Number | The number of protons in an atom |
Atomic Mass/weight | The weight of the neutron in an atom |
neutrons | a neutrally charged particle |
protons | a positively charged particle |
electrons | a negatively charged particle |
chemical formulas | The formula that shows how many elements are in a compound |
subscripts | the thing that show how many elements there are in that compound |
chemical symbols | one to three letters that show what the element is |
chemical equation | used to represent that a chemical reaction has occurred |
reactant | -substances broken apart or combined in a chemical reaction; located on the left side of the arrow. |
product | new products formed in a chemical reaction; located on the right side of the arrow |
