Term | Definition |
Ordinal numbers | Numbers used to show the order of people or objects. |
Digit | 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9: these are the symbols used to write numbers |
Place value | The value of each place a digit has in a number. |
Expanded form | A number written as the sum of the values of its digit |
Standard form | A way to write a number showing only its digits. |
Word form | Using the word names to write a number. |
Period | A group of 3 digits in a number, starting from the right. Two periods are separated by a comma. |
Compare | To decide if one number is greater than or less than another number. |
< | Is less than |
> | Is greater than |
= | Is equal to |
Number line | A line that shows numbers in order using a scale. |
Order | To arrange numbers from least to greatest or from greatest to least. |
Even number | Has a ones digit of 0,2,4,6,8. A number that is a multiple of 2. |
Odd number | Has a ones digit of 1,3,5,7,9. A number not able to be divisible by 2. |
Rounding | Replacing a number with a number that tells about how much or how many to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, and so on. |
Decimal point | A dot used to separate dollars from cents and ones from tenths in a number. |
Dollar sign | $ - used in money to show money. |
