What are Rational Numbers? | We call fractions Rational Numbers, to distinguish them from the Integers, which are the multiples of unity. |
Are the Integers also Rational Numbers? | Yes, every Integer a can be written as the fraction a/1, and is a Rational Number. |
What is a Proper Fraction? | A Proper Fraction is a fraction that is smaller than unity. |
What is an Improper Fraction? | An Improper Fraction is a fraction that is not smaller than unity. |
What is a Mixed Number? | A Mixed Number is an integer a added to a proper fraction b/c. It is written as a+b/c. |
When do we say that a fraction is reduced into Lowest Terms? | A fraction is said to be reduced into Lowest Terms if the greatest common measure of the numerator and the denominator is 1. |
How do we reduce a fraction into Lowest Terms? | Find the greatest common measure of the numerator and the denominator of the fraction. Then, replace each of them with their quotient by it. |
