Term | Definition |
Place Value | The value given to the place a digit has in a number. |
Base 10 | Refers to the numbering system in common use. |
Standard Form | A way to write a number showing only its digits. |
Word Form | A number written in words. |
Expanded Form | A number written as the sum of the values of its digits. |
Digit | The symbols used to write a number: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,7, 8, and 9. |
Estimate | To make an approximate or rough calculation, often based on rounding. |
Rounding | Replacing a number with a number that tells about how many or how much. |
Compare | To decide if one number is greater than or less than another number. |
Greater than | When one value is larger than another. |
Less than | When one value is smaller than another. |
Equal to | When values have the same amount. |
Period | Each group of three digits separated by commas in a multi-digit number. |
